we can do it

inspired by the early 1940s, WE CAN DO IT explores challenging gender norms and stereotypes in the workforce. the boxy masculine silhouettes are inspired by the zoot suit, a popular style for mexican-american men in the early 1940s. around the same time, women entered the workforce while men served in WWI. while men were away, women filled their jobs. not only did women do the jobs of men, due to rations, women wore the work clothes men left at home instead of buying or making new clothes, as we progress as a society, we continue to erase antiquated gender norms in clothing. this collection places the modern working woman in a traditional male silhouette and redefines the past with progress. WE CAN DO IT is the story of women's continuous fight for equality in a male-dominated workforce.
